Information for Project Faculty and Grads

Scholars in Arms: Dickens Project faculty members Jonathan Grossman (UCLA) and David Kurnick (Rutgers).

FOR DICKENS PROJECT CONSORTIUM MEMBER FACULTY:

Please check your link on the Faculty Attending page and let the Dickens Project office know of any corrections.

Faculty are housed in shared apartments, although all bedrooms are single (twin beds). If you are traveling with a partner or family members, you may wish to stay in a nearby hotel, but you'll need to access the campus via car, Uber, or Lyft.

FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS FROM CONSORTIUM MEMBER SCHOOLS:

Your registration form asks you to rank your Universe job preferences and to provide other information that helps us make assignments. The short blurb about your research interests will be printed and distributed among faculty and other grads. Please plan to arrive on Saturday afternoon, July 20. Please contact the Dickens Project office if you need to make other arrangements.

You will be housed with other grad students in shared apartments, and, in some cases, you may have to share a bedroom. We purposely do not house you with the other grad from your school because we want you to meet new people during the week. There will be scholars from all over the world, so we hope you take advantage of the networking opportunities.

As the form indicates, your school will be billed for your registration. Faculty and grads do not pay for registration. Should you want to reserve a spot, you're responsible for the cost of the Return Shuttle. Unfortunately, we don't provide transportation FROM the airports to campus, but you can find a link to ground transportation at either of the airport websites.

The uniqueness (and greatness) of the Dickens Universe is due to the diversity of our participants. In addition to scholars, the gathering includes high school students and teachers, undergraduates, and members of the general public with a range of knowledge that may surprise you. Many have been coming to the Universe for several years.

You will receive a very informative email from your Cruise Directors, two returning grad students whose mission is to help you navigate and enjoy the week. That email will cover what you should bring, wear, expect, etc. You can contact the Dickens Project office or the Cruise Directors with any questions.

IF YOU ARE A GRAD STUDENT OR FACULTY FROM A NON-MEMBER SCHOOL, YOU NEED TO REGISTER AS A REGULAR PARTICIPANT

We encourage you to participate in the 19th-Century Seminar, where you can present your work to colleagues. Only faculty from the member schools may attend the daily Faculty Seminars (11:45-12:45 PM), and only grads from member schools may attend the afternoon Grad Seminars (2:00-3:00 PM). This is one of the privileges of Dickens Project Consortium Membership. If your school is interested in joining, please get in touch with the Project Office.
