Dickens and George Eliot event invitation

On the occasion of Charles Dickens's 205th birthday, you are cordially invited to a special event with Dickens Project Founders John O. Jordan and Murray Baumgarten

"Dickens and George Eliot:
Rivalry or Romance?"

Tuesday, February 7 • 5:30-7:30 PM
Student Community Center, UC Davis

Charles Dickens and George Eliot, the two preeminent novelists of the Victorian period, admired each other’s work, but were rivals in the literary marketplace. Please join UC Santa Cruz Literature professors Murray Baumgarten and John Jordan for a freewheeling conversation about Eliot’s complex relationship with Dickens, including the shadowy role played by Eliot’s long-time lover and partner, George Henry Lewes.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
