Sweet Story movie posterFriends of the Dickens Project President Michael Stern wears another hat when he’s not performing his duties for the Friends—he’s a movie producer! More specifically, Mike has served as the executive producer for a number of documentaries, the most recent being Sweet Störy, which recently opened the Sonoma International Film Festival, held March 19-23.

“Four hours from Stockholm in the middle of the Baltic Sea sits the most charming bakery” reads the film’s promotional material; the film tells the true story of American visitors who help to save the troubled Cafe Trüten from closing. Written, produced, and directed by Sarah Karnish and Matt Maude, the film had its world premiere as the opening movie at the Somona event.

As executive producer, our Friends president’s work is largely behind the scenes, but there was also a special friends and family screening at the festival, with a potluck picnic following the show, and Mike was also active in the planning of those events. Congratulations to him and the others who worked to make the film a reality.
