Edwin Eigner is one of the three founders of The Dickens Universe. "The Rejected Witness" is a dramatization developed from a reading given at the very first Dickens Universe in 1980.
This one man play is composed of passages from various parts of Dickens' Bleak House, forming a connected and coherent story of the life and death of an illiterate orphan who lives in a dreadful slum and eeks out a starvation living by sweeping the mud off a London street-crossing.
About Edwin Eigner: After a career as an English professor, Eigner appeared in about 20 roles, three of them leads, mostly in the San Diego area, but also in the Santa Cruz and San Francisco areas. He has also written and directed four plays.
