Nirshan Perera has a lot to smile about. He is set to receive his Ph.D in Literature this summer and has been awarded the 2011-12 Anne and Jim Bay Fellowship in Victorian Literature. The Bay Fellowship, designed to support UCSC doctoral candidates studying nineteenth-century British literature, carries a cash award. Perera has also been named the Outstanding Teaching Assistant in Literature and received a gift certificate from Bay Tree Bookstore.
This past year, in addition to completing his dissertation, "Dickens and Darwin," Nirshan organized the 2012 Dickens Project Graduate Student Winter Conference in Santa Cruz, which will be held at LSU in 2013.
