Each year the Dickens Project hosts a follow-up winter event that gives the graduate students from the summer Universe the opportunity to present their work in a small conference setting. The winter conference is a great opportunity for Dickens Project grad students to burnish their professional presentation skills in a friendly and supportive environment. It’s a unique chance to meet peers and future colleagues from the summer conference once again, and to get personal feedback and direction on work in progress from all the faculty of the Dickens Project. Each year, the strong participation of Dickens Project faculty—their commitment to grad student mentoring—is what makes the follow-up grad conference a success!
This year, the Winter Conference is being held in Santa Cruz, and we are looking forward to welcoming faculty and grad students, back! The conference meetings will be held at the Museum of Art and History, located in the downtown Santa Cruz area, close to restaurants, theatres, and bookstores. Lodging will be within walking distance.
Grad students may present papers on any author, text, or topic in the long nineteenth century, so the Winter Conference is an annual showcase of the exciting research underway across the grad programs of the Dickens Project. Grads generally give 15-minute presentation on 3- to 4-person panels, moderated by a faculty member of the Dickens Universe.
