About the Dickens Project

The Project creates opportunities for collaborative research on Dickens and the Victorian age and disseminates research findings through annual conferences, institutes, and publications. It supports graduate students’ professional development and produces curricular material for teaching Victorian literature at both secondary and post-secondary levels.

The Dickens Project Consortium

The Dickens Project is a multi-campus research consortium based at UC Santa Cruz, comprising over 30 colleges and universities worldwide. It promotes research on Charles Dickens’ life, work, and times, sharing findings with both scholars and the public. The Project also serves as a key center for nineteenth-century literary and cultural studies.

Friends of the Dickens Project

The Friends of the Dickens Project support the Project’s activities, especially the Dickens Universe conference, making it welcoming for diverse participants. They sponsor popular events like lectures, Victorian teas, a Grand Party, and the Victorian ball. They also fund scholarships for students, teachers, and speakers, support the graduate student Winter Conference, and assist outreach to secondary school teachers and graduate student professionalization programs.
